About KeyGap

Find the gaps in your keyboard shortcuts.

Why this exists

Every platform has a hidden goldmine of unclaimed modifier combos — but finding them means mentally cross-referencing the OS, your browser, your editor, your chat app, and everything else you run. KeyGap does that for you.

The main insight: on macOS, ⌘⌃ (Cmd+Ctrl) is almost entirely unclaimed. On Windows, Win+Ctrl is the equivalent sweet spot. Most people don't know this.

How to use it

Pick your platform at the top. Flip through modifier combos to see what the OS claims. Then toggle the apps you actually use — green keys are safe to claim for your own shortcuts, scripts, Raycast commands, or automation tools.

A note on accuracy

Shortcut data is sourced from official documentation and tested against current versions. Some apps let you rebind everything, and plugins or extensions can add their own shortcuts. If you spot something wrong, open an issue or PR.

"I need 4 hotkeys that won't conflict with VS Code or Figma"
"Is Ctrl+Shift+K taken by anything on Windows?"

How it works

The same shortcut database that powers the visual keyboard above is served via MCP at the endpoint above. Browser visitors get the interactive UI; MCP clients get structured data. One source of truth, two interfaces.
